Canberra Company helps wineries and breweries gain clear visibility into their true production costs and profitability. Whether processing contracted grapes, estate-grown grapes, or brewing craft beverages, we design accounting systems that accurately track ingredients, labor, overhead, production, aging, storage, and distribution costs. Our consultants have worked with wineries and breweries across the nation and frequently find owners frustrated by incomplete cost information. We implement practical cost-accounting procedures that reveal the actual cost of every bottle, case, or keg produced. The result is better pricing decisions, improved profitability, stronger cash flow, and more informed business management.

Many wineries and breweries struggle to grow because success requires more than producing a quality product. Growth depends on talented management, efficient production processes, strong financial controls, effective distribution, and consistent marketing. A common challenge is determining whether distributors are actively promoting the product or whether consumer demand is strong enough to pull the product through stores, restaurants, and retail channels. Industry awards, positive reviews, brand recognition, and customer loyalty can also significantly influence sales. Sustainable growth occurs when production, management, distribution, marketing, and brand reputation work together to create increasing demand and expanding market share. Canberra Company is skilled in identifying what is holding you back from growing your company bigger. We use analytical skills and growth strategies to propel you into growing your company beyond your wildest imagination.

Premiere Brewery Business Consulting Firm

The American wine industry is one of the nation’s most dynamic and profitable agricultural sectors, with California producing approximately 80% of all U.S. wine and ranking among the world’s leading wine-producing regions. From vineyard operations and wine production to tasting rooms, wine clubs, tourism, luxury lodging, special events, wine auctions, and direct-to-consumer sales, today’s winery business is far more complex than simply making great wine.

Success requires strategic planning, financial discipline, effective marketing, customer loyalty programs, operational efficiency, and strong management systems. Canberra Company, a premier winery and brewery consulting firm, helps owners navigate these challenges while identifying opportunities for growth and increased profitability. Our experienced advisors provide guidance in business development, profit improvement, tax planning, marketing strategies, operational controls, and long-term expansion planning.

California wines earned worldwide recognition following the historic 1976 blind tasting competition against French wines. Today, Canberra Company helps winery owners build upon that legacy and achieve even greater success.

There will be no working during drinking hours

One of the most important moments in modern wine history occurred on May 24, 1976, during the famous Judgment of Paris. Organized by British wine merchant Steven Spurrier, the competition featured a panel of distinguished French judges who conducted blind tastings of French and California wines. The results stunned the wine world. California wines captured first place in both major categories, forever changing the perception of American winemaking.

The winning Chardonnay was the legendary 1973 Chateau Montelena, crafted by renowned winemaker and our friend Mike Grgich, while the winning red was the 1973 Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon. This historic event demonstrated that California wines could compete with—and surpass—the finest wines of France.

The legacy remains powerful today. One of the few remaining bottles of the 1973 Chateau Montelena Chardonnay later sold at auction for $11,325, a testament to its place in wine history and the global prestige of California wine.

Wineries in the US

The American wine industry has experienced remarkable growth over the past several decades, transforming the United States into one of the world’s leading wine-producing nations. While many Europeans, particularly the French, continue to maintain that their wines set the global standard for quality and tradition, American wineries have earned international respect through innovation, superior vineyard management, and diverse growing regions. California alone is home to renowned wine areas including Napa Valley, Central Coast, and Temecula Valley, each producing premium wines recognized worldwide. Beyond California, excellent wines are produced throughout many regions of the United States. Most successful wineries also offer wine clubs, providing consumers with exclusive selections, special pricing, member events, and direct access to new releases, helping build customer loyalty and steady revenue growth.

BREWERY’s

Operating a brewery is a complex undertaking that requires careful management of ingredients, brewing processes, quality control, packaging, inventory, distribution, marketing, regulatory compliance, and financial performance. Unlike many industries concentrated in a single region, breweries and craft breweries thrive throughout the United States, supplying consumers with an extraordinary variety of beverages that satisfy changing tastes and preferences. Success depends on producing a consistent, high-quality product while controlling costs and maintaining efficient operations. As breweries grow, owners often face challenges involving production scheduling, inventory management, profitability analysis, distribution expansion, and cash flow control. Canberra Company serves as an experienced outside consultant, helping brewery owners implement proven management systems, improve operational efficiency, strengthen financial reporting, increase profitability, and create a practical roadmap for sustainable growth and long-term success.

In California for craft beer there are more than 3,670,980 barrels of craft beer produced per year. Over all in the US retail dollar sales of craft beer is $29.6 billion, of the $116.0 billion U.S. beer sales across the country. If you ever want to know how much fun it is to drink beer all you have to do is visit the Hofbräuhaus in Munich Germany on a Friday or Saturday night!

There may be some debate: San Diego County has the largest number of craft breweries at 165. While some women shy away from beer, the best place to find a member of the opposite sex may be your favorite winery or brewery, try them both, as you never know.

Wineries and Breweries

The winery business and the brewery business are engaged in a business activity that is fun, interesting and romantic. You cannot mention these specialized spirit businesses without also talking about hotel, real estate and food service. Guests, patrons and vendors come to your geographic area, the first thing they need is a place to stay.If your Presidential suite at the Winery is full then they need to find a hotel or other accommodations (Airbnb or VRBO). Once they drink your products, they need something to eat. Many wineries and breweries have some sort of food service facility or restaurant attached to their tasting room. So, all of this is warm, romantic and integrated. You provide value to your guests and club members when you can fix them up with a total accommodations package.
